All profits from the Fair go to grassroots projects in the Himalayan Region

Tibetan, Nepalese, Indian and Afghan communities work with the Himalayan Fair Committee to offer this annual outdoor celebration of Himalayan cultures. Supporters include the North Shattuck Merchants' Assn., East Bay Express, KPFA Free Speech Radio, The City of Berkeley, Downtown Berkeley Association, and The Monthly

HIMALAYAN FAIR PROJECTS 1995-2006


Proceeds from the Himalayan Fair are used to sponsor a variety of grass roots projects in Himalayan countries. We investigate our projects carefully and make efforts to ensure the money is distributed in a correct manner.

  • AFGHAN WOMEN'S COUNSEL PERCEPTION FOUNDATION Work with Afghan refugees. Mother and child Health Care Clinic in Peshewar Pakistan.

  • AFGHAN WOMEN'S MISSION Supports an establishes health care, education, empowerment to  Afghan refugees, primarily women and children. Increases public Awareness on human rights.

  • AMA FOUNDATION Orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal

  • AMAR SINGH SECONDARY HIGH SCHOOL in Pokhara, Nepal, Sponsorship of music program for blind children

  • ASSOCIATION FOR PROTECTION OF AFGHAN ARCHAEOLOGY Kabul orphanage project

  • BIR SAKIYA TIBETAN MONASTERY Support of small monastery near Dharamsala.

  • BOD-KYI-BANG-CHEN Khawa Karop Tibet Culture Center, Dharamsala India. Newspaper. Publication with international distribution in Tibetan language.

  • CHILDRENíS MEDICAL AID FOUNDATION Surgical support for rural Nepali children with congenital defects.kkkk

  • CHOKHAM CHUSHI GANGDRUK Kampa Welfare Society: senior housing, adult education, cultural program.

  • EAST FOUNDATION: COMMUNITY MEDICINAL AND AROMATIC PLANT CULTIVATION PROGRAM promotes cultivation of medicinal plants and develops alternative livelihoods in Himalayan communities.

  •  EDUCATE THE CHILDREN Women's agricultural training program for Dalit ("untouchable") Women in rural Nepal.

  • FIALKOW FAMILY FUND Support for the families of two Sherpas killed in an avalanche on a trek in Dolpo Western Nepal when they accompanied an American couple from Seattle, the Fialkows, who were also killed.

  • FRIENDS OF SHANTA BHAWAN MEDICAL CLINIC Free health care for poor residents in Kathmandu's Bodinath area.

  • GANZI KHAM GIRLS SCHOOL Building of a girl's school in Eastern Tibet.

  •  HELP THE AFGHAN CHILDREN Establishes and operates health care clinics, educational and vocational centers, home-based education programs.

  • HIMALAYAN CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION Program for orphaned children, Nepal

  • INSTITUTE FOR SIMPLIFIED HYDROPONICS Hydroponic farming project in Muli,Tibet for farming preservation.

  • INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF LAWYERS FOR TIBET Monies to send representatives to the Women's Conference in Beijing.

  • INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S SEWING GROUP Pajamas for hospitalized children, mattresses and blankets for women's shelter, vocational training program for handicapped children in Nepal, books and blankets for Down Syndrome children in Nepal, mosquito netting for city run senior home. Science equipment for Baluwatar and Bhaktapur students, sewing machine women's job training project building of classroom in Udayapur, Nepal

  • INTERPLAST, INC. Reconstructive surgery for Nepali children born with deformities, e.g., cleft palates, or who were burned or received crippling injuries.

  • KALAMANDALAM RODHIKA Project for low-income older Indian artists.

  • KANCHENJUNGA SCHOOL PROJECT, Lelup, Nepal Construction of a girl's school hostel in Lelep, Nepal, a poor hill region.

  • KHAM AID  FOUNDATION Four-year primary school scholarships for 17 children in Kham Province, Tibet. Scholarships for two Tibetan girls to pursue middle school education. Scholarships for two high school girls.  15 Wheelchairs for disabled people in Tibet, Kham Province

  • KDTL NUNNERY School supplies and sponsorship for two child nuns in nunnery near Dharamsala. Help in building new nunnery.

  • LEAF SKELETON Carpets for classroom of mentally disabled children in Nepal.

  • MULI MONASTERY Help with restoration of destroyed monastery in Tibet.

  • NCF FOUNDATION Assistance to build a medical clinic and school for 100 children at the DrogShog School in Tibet's Kham region

  • NANC Nepali Association of Northern California - donation to Nepal Flood Relief.

  • NEPALESE YOUTH  OPPORTUNITY  FOUNDATION Services include children's group homes, day care for street sweeper's children, education, and medical care for Nepalese children. This year's project provides schooling for girls in Dang Village, Nepal, combined with support for their families.

  • NYISHANG REGION BOOK PROJECT Project for Nyishang community toilet construction and medical equipment

  • PARSA Income generating projects to widows and orphans in Kabul, Afghanistan: provides education, job training, establishment of wool-spinning cooperatives, Counseling.

  • PRISM, BANGLADESH Village agriculture project which develops algae farms for nutrition and fishfeeding, and builds cyclone shelters. Arsenic mitigation project/deep well building, rural Bangladesh

  • RED PANDA PROJECT Reforestation project in Eastern Nepal for preservation of the red panda.

  • TIBETAN AID FOUNDATION Basic medical equipment for the ChaZhu Valley Clinic in Tibet

  • TIBET SARGYUR Production of documentary films and videos which counter distorted claims about Tibet's political and cultural history.

  • SAMDO VILLAGE EDUCATION PROJECT School building in rural Nepal

  • S.E.E.D.S. FOUNDATION Help building a clean drinking water system in Manaslu area, Nepal. Tibetan medicines for Tibetan doctor in Langtang District, Nepal

  • SEWA KENDRA LEPROSY CLINIC Solar panel, water filter and lines, medical equipment for Pashupati Leprosy Clinic, Dr. Hira Pradhan

  • SPINY BABBLER ARTS PROGRAM Art organization for youth at risk in Kathmandu, children of prisoners, Education and workshops on domestic abuse, and child abuse.  "Mother to Child Program" medical treatment and neo-natal and infant health.

  • TAPASTHALI BRIDHHASHRAM FOR THE ELDERLY Refuge for elderly destitute women in Kathmandu, Nepal.

  • TENGBOCHE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT Medicinal plant conservation and cultivation project in Solu Khumbu, Nepal

  • THUPTEN NYAMGAL LING MONESTARY Help in building living quarters for monks in Tibet

  • TIBETAN CENTER FOR COMPASSION AND WISDOM Support for Tibetan refugees in India

  • TIBET CHILD NUTRITION PROJECT Application research program dedicated to making a sustainable improvement in the nutritional health of Tibetan children in the Tibet autonomous Region. served 1900 children in first year. Combines Western medicine with traditional Tibetan healing.

  • TIBETAN RELIEF FUND - SAKYA CENTER HOSPITAL, Medical equipment (X-ray machine) for Tibetan hospital in Dehradun, India.

  • TREES FOR LIFE Gum-Tree planting environmental/nutrition project in India

  • SCHOLARSHIPS Fund for medical treatment and school tuition for Tibetan refugee in Dharamsala who lost his feet from frostbite escaping from Tibet. Scholarship for Tibetan woman in Dharamsala refugee camp for nursing school

  • WHOLE CHILD INITIATIVE Railroad Platform Project to educate children living in railroad stations.

  • WOMEN AND CHILDREN WELFARE Dr. Pradhan's Leprosy Clinic in Kathmandu, Nepal. Mattresses, beds,  laboratory equipment for leprosy hospital.

  • VIRTUE'S CHILDREN NEPAL Skill training for blind girls, sewing machines for women's vocational project. Clothing donation and ambulance repair to Paropakar Orphanage, Kathmandu, Nepal. Children's referral project (CWNN). Assistive devises for disabled children, Incense Making program for blind and Physically impaired children, Asha House, Kathmandu clothing donations.

  • WHARTON PHORTSE HOSTEL Operating costs for student sponsorship program in Khumjung, Nepal

  • YAKTI NUNNERY Housing for the elderly in Ganzi Kham Province, Tibet. The first of it's type.
