All profits from the Fair go to grassroots projects in the Himalayan Region

Tibetan, Nepalese, Indian and Afghan communities work with the Himalayan Fair Committee to offer this annual outdoor celebration of Himalayan cultures. Supporters include the North Shattuck Merchants' Assn., East Bay Express, KPFA Free Speech Radio, The City of Berkeley, Downtown Berkeley Association, and The Monthly

HIMALAYAN FAIR PROJECTS:  2004

  • Virtue's Children Nepal:  Clothing and Shoes Donations to Paropakar Orphanage and Astha House, Incense Making Program for Blind and Physically Impaired Children, Assistive Devices for Disabled Children.

  • Kham Aid Foundation - Sponsorship of 15 fourth grade students in Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province.  Sponsorship of 2 Senior Middle School Girls

  • Sewa Kendra Leprosy Clinic: Pashupati, Kathmandu, Nepal. Dr. Hira Pradhan            Solar panel, water filter and lines, and medical instruments.     

  • Chokham Chushi Gangdruk:  Kampa Welfare Society:  senior housing, adult education, cultural program. 

  • Bod-Kyi-Bang-Chen:  Khawa Karop Tibet Culture Center, Dharamsala India: newspaper publication with international distribution in Tibetan language.

  • Thupten Namgyal Ling Monestary:  help in building living quarters for monks in Tibet

  • International Women's Sewing Group
        2 school math projects:
    science equipment for Baluwatar and Bhaktapur students.
        Sewing machine project: job training for women
        Luxmipur School: building of classroom in Udayapur, Nepal

  • Leaf Skeleton Program:  carpets for classroom of mentally disabled students.                                  

  • Spiny Babbler "Mother to Child" Program:  medical treatment and neo-natal and infant health care and training for mothers.                                                                      

  • Wharton Phortse Hostel: operating costs for student sponsorship in Khumjung, Nepal

  •  Association for the Protection of Afghan Archaeology:  Kabul orphanage project.

  • Prism Bangladesh:  Arsenic Mitigation Project in rural Bangladesh:  installation of ten deep set Arsenic free water supply pumps supplying drinking water to 400 families. 

  • Himalayan Children's Foundation:  Nepal:  program for orphaned children in Kathmandu

  • Nyishang Region, Nepal book project for Nyishang community toilet construction and medical equipment

  • Educate The Children: animal housing project for farming women
